Blue Sapphire Earrings - Argentium Silver - 2380

A contemporary, yet timeless design by award winning designer, David Worcester.

Cast in Argentium 960 premium quality, 100% recycled silver, these earrings measure 27mm x 13.5mm, or 1 1/16 x 1/2 inches, and hold 3.5mm Chatham Blue Sapphires at the tip.

A ribbon of Argentium Silver swirls down off the ear to capture a bright colorless stone at its tip. This tendril of silver frames the face, with a design first conceived as a pendant. Unlike the pendant, these earrings hold no center stone, which I felt was too formal. I wanted these to be enjoyed for wear at any time of day. The original patterns were carved in wax, and like all asymmetrical earrings, presented the challenge of each mirroring the other.

CHATHAM BLUE SAPPHIRE: While sapphire exists in a multitude of shades, blue is the color that has most captured the imagination and become associated with this much-loved gemstone. In fact, the name ‘Sapphire’ is derived from the Latin word for blue. In 1975 the Chatham Laboratories announced the world’s first lab-grown Blue Sapphire of true gem quality. Shimmering with the same intense, velvety blue that inspired the poets and philosophers of the ancient world. Chatham Created Gemstones provide an economical and environmentally responsible alternative to mined gems. Chatham Created Blue Sapphire is in fact identical to the world’s finest mined gems - in every respect but price. It is physically, chemically, spectrally, and optically identical to mined sapphires. Sapphire is the birthstone for September and used to celebrate the 5th, 45th and 70th wedding anniversary.

ARGENTIUM SILVER is a special alloy, verified as the most tarnish resistant made, but an occasional simple wipe with a soft cloth, and tucking the piece into the provided, protective pouch will further enhance its natural aversion to tarnish. Eco-friendly recycled silver. More information on Argentium 960 Silver and David's processes can be found in our "About" page.
